SAC - Converting Dataset to Model - No Direct Method

To convert a Dataset into a Model in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), follow the steps below. Converting a dataset to a model allows you to leverage more advanced features like calculations, planning, and better management of master data.

Steps to Convert a Dataset to a Model in SAC:

1. Open the Dataset:

• Log in to SAP Analytics Cloud.
• Navigate to the Datasets section and locate the dataset you want to convert.

2. Export the Dataset:

• Since SAC doesn't provide a direct "convert to model" button, you first need to export the dataset:
  • Open the dataset and click on the More Actions (three dots) icon.
  • Choose Export Data and select a suitable format (e.g., CSV or Excel) for export.

3. Create a New Model:

• After exporting the dataset, go to the Modeler in SAC.
• Select Create New Model and choose From a File to import the exported dataset.
• Follow the prompts to upload the file (CSV or Excel) containing the data from your exported dataset.

4. Configure the Model:

• Once the file is uploaded, SAC will prompt you to configure the model:
  • Map Columns: Ensure that the columns in your dataset are mapped to the appropriate data types (e.g., dimensions, measures, and attributes).
  • Create Dimensions: SAC will identify potential dimensions (e.g., customer ID, product category) and measures (e.g., revenue, sales). You can modify or confirm these selections based on your needs.
  • Enrich Master Data: If you want to link any master data to the model, you can create or import master data dimensions at this stage.

5. Finalize and Save the Model:

• After mapping the columns and configuring the model, click on Create Model.
• Review the model structure to ensure everything is set up correctly.
• Save the model with a meaningful name to make it easier to find later.

6. Validate the Model:

• Once the model is created, validate it by opening it in the Modeler and checking the data.
• Create sample stories or visualizations to confirm the model works as expected.
