To create a story in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) on a dataset, follow these steps:
Step 1: Log in to SAP Analytics Cloud
- Open your web browser and log in to your SAP Analytics Cloud tenant.
Step 2: Access the Story Creation Interface
- From the Home screen, navigate to the Stories section:
- Click on the Create button (usually a "+" icon) located in the top menu.
- Select Story from the drop-down options.
Step 3: Select a Dataset
- After choosing to create a story, SAC will prompt you to select a data source.
- You can either:
- Import a new dataset: Choose to upload a file (e.g., Excel, CSV) or connect to a data source (such as SAP HANA, BW, or S/4HANA).
- Select an existing dataset: If your dataset has already been uploaded, select it from the Datasets section.
- Once you've selected your dataset, SAC will load the data for use in your story.
Step 4: Choose a Canvas Layout
- SAC will ask if you want to work with a Responsive layout (which adjusts based on screen size) or a Canvas layout (fixed size).
- Choose one based on your preferences. Canvas is common for dashboards or specific-sized reports, while Responsive is good for mobile-friendly designs.
Step 5: Add Visualizations
- Start by adding visual elements to your story:
- Charts: Click the Chart button from the toolbar to select the type of chart (e.g., bar, line, pie chart). Drag and drop dimensions (such as date, product, etc.) and measures (such as sales, quantity) into the corresponding axes of the chart.
- Tables: You can also add tables if you want to see detailed, tabular data.
- Text: Add headings, descriptions, or comments using the Text option.
- Images/Shapes: Enhance the visual appearance by adding images or shapes to the story.
Step 6: Configure the Chart Properties
- Once you've added a chart, configure its properties:
- Filters: Apply filters based on date, region, or any other dimension to narrow down the data being visualized.
- Input Controls: Use input controls (like dropdowns or sliders) to allow dynamic user selection on the dashboard.
- Conditional Formatting: Highlight certain data points using conditional formatting to improve visibility of key metrics.
Step 7: Add Pages (Optional)
- If your story is more complex, you can add multiple pages:
- On the left-hand panel, click + Add Page to create additional story sections.
- You can use different layouts for different pages (e.g., a dashboard on one page and detailed charts on another).
Step 8: Save Your Story
- Once you are satisfied with the visualizations, click the Save button (located in the upper right corner).
- Provide a meaningful name and description for the story.
- Choose a folder to store it in, or create a new one if necessary.
Step 9: Share or Publish (Optional)
- If you want to share the story with others:
- Click on the Share button and select the users or user groups with whom you wish to share the story.
- You can also publish the story to the SAC Catalog for others to view.
By following these steps, you'll have a basic story created in SAP Analytics Cloud based on your dataset. You can further explore advanced features like Linked Analysis, Smart Insights, or Planning based on your requirements.
